Under the Bed - Movie Review

Under The Bed Review 13/7/ · Slickly anonymous, and with a distinctly Amblin-esque sense of nostalgia, Under the Bed extols the courage of Neal (Jonny Weston) and his younger bro, Paulie (Gattlin Griffith), as they struggle to overcome the sort of anxiety typically treated in real life with 20 milligrams of Prozac a day.1,5/4. Under the Bed is smartly cast with talented young actors (Johnny Weston and Gattlin Griffith) that are able to believably convey the story. Peter Holden is equally good as the boys’ troubled father. Steven C. Miller has created an R-rated horror film that is designed to appeal to older children and adults. 14/6/ · In the end, “Under Your Bed” is a challenging psychological horror movie given its consistent narrative from the eyes of the abuser. In times of being politically correct and artists treading carefully, to actually make a film as challenging as this is quite noteworthy, even if . Under the Bed explores territory that isn’t unfamiliar to horror fans but the dark and twisted way in which Steven C. Miller explores it will be new to film follows brothers Paulie and Neal as they battle the monster that lives under their bed. Under the Bed is not your average horror movie. Instead it has the feel of good old films like Fright Night or Lost Boys. The story is that of two young brothers battling a demon that lives under their bed. Review: Under the Bed The film’s sense of conviction and psychological nuance never rises above that of the “I Learned It from Watching You” anti-drug PSA. We went from a lame movie starring a rubber claw under a bed with loud music and no scares to a gore-slathered, slimy creature romp. The monster itself is actually pretty damned cool looking and the special effects are up to snuff as well. It looks like an inbred, disfigured Moorlock covered in snot. Every child knows about the monster under the bed-Neal Hausman's mistake was trying to fight it. Neal (Jonny Weston, Chasing Mavericks) has returned from a two-year exile following his tragic. All you know is it wants the older kid but has been tormenting his younger brother while he's been away.

The father is completely unlikable and borderline abusive. The stepmother was about the only good thing about the whole, hole filled storyline. The acting is mediocre at best.

The ending is very bleh. There's just nothing in this movie that I can give more than a 4 for. Yes, the image is cheaply drawn but it's intriguing enough.

The weakness of a movie like this there's no real way to title or market it. Of course it's going to spoil itself.

Bear with me. It's worth a watch. What unfolds is a standard story where two boys, one older and one younger, support each other against the eponymous monster of the film's title.

One parent is dead and the other, Dad, doesn't believe them. Stepmom isn't helpful. These scenes would be worse if the two leads weren't good actors.

Their relationship seems natural and familial. None of their dialog is unique and the film could have given the older brother more personality.

Instead, he is a leather clad, angsty teen boy from an 80's movie. You get the impression that the film began as a short that the writer expanded.

The first 45 minutes is really filler and skippable. There are many characters introduced, including a love interest for older brother who serve no purpose.

Only in the final 30 minutes does the monster come out. It makes slight appearances beforehand so you don't forget this is a horror movie and not a Lifetime film.

You see the monster is some kind of amphibious demon who lives in a mythical world. He looks similar to the eyeball monster from Pan's Labyrinth. He rips many head off as if the practical effects team had one puppet design they were proud to destroy.

Maybe the director just has a head preference. I just don't get the obsession with heads. Even in its first appearance, the monster attacks a person's neck.

That's ok. By this point, we just want to see something happen to justify this taking a spot in Horror Pack. The actors carried the film long enough for me to wonder why the monster exists or what his connection to the boys is.

Why is it humanoid? The film offers no explanation at all, and in its defense, I suppose that's better than a stupid explanation.

If a Nightmare on Elm Street can have an explanation in its lore we can accept, Under the Bed can too. This film already requires you to accept a lot of plot holes or inconsistencies to enjoy it.

It's good enough to be indulged. The film has a brightness in its dark, blue nightmarish scenes. You will see an actor's face lighted while the rest of the scene is bluish.

It takes the viewer out of the experience a tad. It's especially noticeable when there is a transition to a daytime scene.

It's part of the overall sloppiness of the entire experience. Good acting and gore effects trumps poor dialog and direction this time.

Not much to say here, this is a teen horror movie aimed at tweens. The central actors were all earnest in their roles gotta give them that.

Ever since I watched Takeshi Kitano's "Hana-Bi" for the first time and many times after that I have been a cinephile.

While much can be said about the technical aspects of film, coming from a small town in Germany, I cherish the notion of art showing its audience something which one does normally avoid, neglect or is unable to see for many different reasons.

Often the stories told in films have helped me understand, discover and connect to something new which is a concept I would like to convey in the way I talk and write about films.

Thus, I try to include some info on the background of each film as well as a short analysis without spoilers, of course , an approach which should reflect the context of a work of art no matter what genre, director or cast.

In the end, I hope to pass on my joy of watching film and talking about it. They also extend and retract so mobility can be limited to your desire.

The straps that go around the wrists and ankles are velcro but are sturdy. You can pull and yank all you want and won't be able to undo yourself until "playtime" is done.

Needless to say, this was the extra spice we needed and its so much fun to have! This is a simple way to try out a little bondage that probably won't intimidate your partner.

The cuffs are soft and comfortable, setup is quick, and it's easily adjustable to any size of bed or person. It's only velcro that secures the cuffs, but they're surprisingly strong; you won't be able to pull out of them.

The biggest shortfall is that they don't have enough velcro to be tightened on a thin wrist; most women would probably be able to slip out.

In fact, unless your victim's wrist is very thick there will be a tail of extra velcro hanging off which it is possible to grab and pull to free yourself.

Nitpicking aside, it's outstanding for the price. A higher quality equivalent would be much more expensive and require a specialty shop.

And if you do decide you want to get a little more extreme, you could easily attach stronger locking cuffs to this thing.

OK ladies and gentlemen for the price you pay for this it's well worth it. I'm a runner because my man is just that great but with this your not going anywhere.

It's super comfortable and very easy to use. This will fix under any bed and believe it or not you can get quite creative using these.

It's strong and sturdy enough to hold either of you. Get fast answers from reviewers. Please make sure that you are posting in the form of a question.

I give enough credit to the photography, special effects, sound and technology, but that's still a 3 star from other sci-fi, ghostly, thriller movies I've watched before this one.

All in all, it's an ok movie if you want to sit through to wait for the gory parts in the end but I don't like all that gore and guts and it made no sense with the "monster" under the bed that head ripping is it's forte when throughout the whole beginning to near the end, we learn that this monster "eats" its victims, not rip off heads.

Sorry, that was the SPOILER ALERT! Otherwise, enjoy watching another gory, spook, gastly, ghostly movie if you like that sort of thing.

I was generally pleased with Don't Be Afraid of the Dark and The Boogeyman , so why not give this a shot? After years apart following the death of his mother, disheveled and angsty teen Neal Jonny Weston; John Dies at the End, Taken 3 returns home to live with his father Peter Holden; Alien Abduction and younger brother Paulie.

He had been sent away two years ago to "get well" after he burned the house down with his mother in it, defending himself from the monster residing under his bed.

Now that he has returned, he learns his little brother has been tormented by the same demon every night. The notion that an otherworldly monster can magically cross into our dimension through the floor under one specific kid's bed is pretty silly.

Terrifying, in fact. That it only does so in the dark while you're asleep…even scarier. There was so much potential for dark figures and painfully drawn-out tension.
